Choose Us For Sports Injury Treatment
The assessment and treatment of Sports injuries is a specialisation of physiotherapy that requires extensive knowledge of sport, especially the movement mechanics involved for each sport. It’s easy to call yourself a Sports Physiotherapist but without this knowledge, it is difficult to understand the nature of a sports injury and be able to apply the appropriate treatment and rehabilitation required to get athletes and sports people back to their favoured sport safely, stronger and without the risk of an injury returning.
There are two primary types of sports injuries:
- 1. Acute/Traumatic - Sudden injury, often with immediate pain and swelling for example, a mild ankle strain to fractures and dislocations
- 2. Overuse - Develops over time, normally in repetitive sports like running. Begins with mild pain that goes away with rest but over time pain increases and may not go away. For example, Achilles Tendonitis or ITB syndrome
Let our experienced Specialist Sports Physiotherapy team diagnose and treat your injury and help get you back to full fitness and stronger than before.
Here are a few suggestions is you suffer from a traumatic injury, or develop an overuse injury:
- With traumatic injuries, if there is severe pain, deformity or inability to weight bear, or your head, neck or spine have been injured, seek medical advice

If you have pain and swelling, follow the R-I-C-E routine:
Rest
Ice - for 20 mins 2-3 times a day. Avoid applying ice directly to the skin. Wrap ice in a tea towel
Compression - using Tubigrip
Elevation - raise your leg when lying down to help drain any swelling - With overuse injuries, try and work out what is causing the pain and avoid. Non weight bearing activities like cycling or swimming may help
