2D MOVEMENT SCANS brings new cutting-edge technology to The Physiotherapy Clinics. The software produces a 2D model or avatar of your body providing accurate and detailed information of about your posture, balance and the way you move.
Movement and Posture Scans
Our cutting edge 2D scans are beneficial for everyone wanting to improve their posture, balance and movement, and reduce unnecessary aches and pains.
Many common ailments like back pain, joint stiffness and muscle soreness stem from poor posture. So regardless of your background, whether retired, work long sedentary hours or an elite athlete, movement and posture scans will help identify asymmetries. 2D scans only take 6 minutes to complete using a smartphone and our unique software, and can be carried out in the comfort of your own home. 3D scans are mainly for organisations as part of their staff health programme, click here for more details.
2D scans produce a biomechanical profile, or blueprint, detailing accurate data of your posture, balance, coordination and movement. Once we receive your scan results, one of our experienced physiotherapists will review the data and create a detailed report. This will show the results along with any recommendations along with a suitable exercise plan to help you to move better, improve your balance and reduce any pain or stiffness. You will receive your report along with advice and exercise plan within 48 hours. Further 2D scans are comparable side by side to show progress.
Many of our patients prefer to complete a scan prior to their physiotherapy appointment which provides the physiotherapist with greater information about the way you move. Alternatively, you may like to have a more in-depth online video consultation with the Physiotherapist who completed your report. If you would like to do this, call us on 0131 218 3000 to make an appointment.
Your questions answered
Why have a 2D scan?
9.5 million work days are lost each year in the UK due to musculoskeletal conditions, and 2.8 million people suffer from chronic back pain. Moving well is the key to wellness and a quality lifestyle. With an injury, pain or stiffness, we develop subconscious compensation strategies that shift our postural alignment and affect the way we move. Postural asymmetries can also occur from the way we sit or stand or from sporting activities that are repetitive like running, cycling and even walking. An old knee or ankle injury can manifest itself years later as pain, for example in the hip, low back, shoulder or neck. Correcting these imbalances is crucial to reducing pain and moving better, standing taller, avoiding injury, recovering faster as well as fine tuning balance and performance.
Would a 2D scan help me?
2D scanning is helpful for everyone. Athletes of all levels from weekend warriors to professionals will benefit from assessing and improving the way they move to help improve their performance and reduce the risk of injuries. People at work can sit or stand for lengthy periods causing altered postural alignment resulting in discomfort, pain or excessive stiffness. As we get older, our balance can decline increasing the risk of a fall. Having a 2D scan when you are feeling great is also worthwhile to help fine tune your movement which may prevent the onset of problems years later.
Does having a 2D scan mean I will need physiotherapy treatment?
No, and this is another reason the 2D scans are so useful. After your scan, one of our experienced physiotherapists will assess your scan, like a Radiologist will review an x-ray, and produce a report which is sent to you along with advice and recommendations. Quite often, we only recommend small changes and maybe a couple of exercises which are sufficient to put you back on track. However, some patients require a more detailed approach and require physiotherapy treatment.
What should I do next if I am thinking about having a scan?
To arrange a 2D scan, click here to take you the payment page. Once you have paid you will be provided with a link to the software which you can upload on your phone
Will you provide a generic programme after my scan?
No, every programme is individualised. As with our physiotherapy service, we focus on providing bespoke and individualised programmes and advice. We are all different, and no two scan results will be the same, so we will focus on what advice, treatment and exercise plan is right for you.

His instructions were very clear and the instructional videos made available through the app were really useful. I'd had niggling, low-level pain in my shoulder for around 13 years and then recently I lost full range of motion due to a karate injury; after working with Peter I can honestly say that my shoulder now feels better and stronger than it has done for a very long time! Thanks again :-)Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Julie Grant2024-03-12Very grateful. The treatment and exercises he gave me completely sorted my issue. Would 100% recommend both him and the clinic!Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Helen Campbell2024-01-15Had a great experience at this clinic. Antony put together a detailed treatment plan for treating knee pain. He clearly explained how each exercise would benefit the activities I wanted to be able to do. Not only is he a great physio, but he is so friendly and always makes you feel listened to.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Jill Steel2024-01-13Phil has been supporting me a long standing complicated issue, which previous places have been unable to help. Phil's extensive experience and positive approach, coupled with his willingness to think outside the box is making a difference. Recently this approach has included the 3D movement scan. It's very easy to participate in, and it revealed problematic postural and movement detail that would be harder to discover by other means. I recommend the 3D scan as a rehabilitation tool.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Dermot Bailie2024-01-11I highly recommend the physiotherapy clinic South Gyle. I received a detailed assessment of my problem from Phil. He clearly explained the issues I'm having and why, plus the treatment, exercises required to rectify. Really happy with my experience and I would not hesitate to go back. Thanks PhilTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Keith Lloyd2024-01-11I first attended the South Gyle clinic to see Anthony Guiducci on February 2023. I was suffering from a very painful trapped nerve in the lower back. Later in the year, with the back issue having been virtually cleared, I developed some nerve pain in the right knee along with general stiffness in the left knee. Finally around late October I had "tennis elbow" on my right elbow.I should say that I am 73 years old and spent many years playing contact sports, mainly rugby and football and now in my twilight years golf. It catches up with you eventually 😁. All through this time Anthony has been totally professional with a great knowledge of muscle and nerve structure and their interaction. His approach to giving you remedial exercises is well structured to your ability and takes great care that you keep within your capabilities as you build up the strengthening and more testing lessons. I can highly recommend him to anyone looking for physio help with their injuries or aches and pains. I must also say that, on the odd occasion when I had to use other physios at South Gyle, due to holiday leave I was equally impressed by the expertise of the staff.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.Gary Kendall2024-01-07Came here with a mild hamstring strain, ran a 3:30 marathon 5 weeks later!
